The wind shelter is located in a rest area on Stage 11 of the Bergslagsleden trail. It is situated in a picturesque spot within the Dunderklintarna nature reserve, adjacent to Södra Murstenstjärnen lake. The design of the wind shelter emerged from the site's unique conditions and cultural-historical context.
The wind shelter is constructed using a traditional southern Swedish building technique called 'Skiftesverk'. This method uses fewer materials than log-built shelters, which are usually erected along the trail, but retains the modular quality — the structure can be produced as a kit and easily transported to the site. Unlike a conventional frame construction, the latticework also offers greater robustness.
To create a durable surface finish that requires minimal maintenance, the trusses and pitched roof are treated using the Yakisugi technique. The charred wood ties in with the area's rich cultural and historical context, which is characterised by charcoal production and iron ore mining.
